Action Research Update - 03/17/2013
Due to various reasons, I had to begin my Action Research Project again. I had originally chosen to determine how mentoring students who were in need of extra assistance due to low grades or behavioral issues would impact their performance. Initially, there was a local company who had partnered with our school to serve as mentors for students. This agreement fell through when the partnership did not continue. Therefore, I have changed my research project to another area of concern which is related to low performing students as well.
Near the middle of each school year, retention letters are sent home to students in danger of failing as of half-way through the school year. Conferences are setup to address areas of concern. I have taught for almost seven years now, and I have encountered several students who have been retained in previous years due to their lack of satisfactory academic performance. My new action research project is to determine if the retention of a student due to failing grades benefits the student in the following grade levels.
Further updates will follow regarding my new action research project...
